West Virginia Desk and Derrick Club

Greetings Members,

I hope everyone is surviving the winter blues, tax season, allergies or whatever your demon may be.  In addition to all our daily activities I am happy to share with you some of the ideas from the West Virginia Desk and Derrick Board planning meeting. As Antoine De Saint-Expupery stated “A goal without a plan is just a wish”.  We,  West Virginia Desk and Derrick Board members, have established the plan for 2012 to continue our quest to reach our goal.  We hope that you, the members, will continue to support and join our efforts.

We have a schedule set up, once again traveling to Flatwoods, Buckhannon, Bridgeport and Parkersburg. I believe as any board member will tell you-this is the hardest part of the planning, our desire is to share the burden of traveling among the members while keeping with some “traditions” that have worked well in the past.  The schedule is updated on our website.  Wayne has been doing a wonderful job updating our website; I invite you to check it often for current club news, as well as updates on Convention 2013 as they become available.

I have changed things a bit with setting up the committees this year.  The board members chose their committees and I have challenged them to find committee chairpersons, so if a board members calls on you – please consider dedicating your time to fill a spot on the committee.  As with anything you do, the more you give the more receive.  We will continue to build our committees at our February meeting.  We have the program committee in place and they are working on lining up speakers for our future meetings.

In keeping with the theme of “Reclamation in Progress”, our February meeting will be in comparison with filing a rec plan as a company does when filing for a permit.  This is the plan the company will use to make that footprint they leave a more pristine area after a well is completed, or after the pipeline is set or the mine is done or even a rework project.  I will share with you our plans for the year ahead.

Not only are we feverishly working on our plan for 2012 for the club, plans for the 2013 convention are being established also.  We will be a busy group this year, if you have an ideas for the club, meetings, field trips or convention ideas – please contact a board member or better yet attend a meeting and share your thoughts.
